8 Things We’d Better Do At Night Instead Of In The Morning
You think you may have your day’s schedule planned to the tee in order for you to be the most productive version of you that you could possibly achieve. However, we’re here to tell you that morning and night schedules don’t have to be so black and white. In fact, there are several things at night that you postpone doing until next morning simply because you feel it will hurt your body or your mind. Turns out, you may just be wrong!
As a matter of fact, science says that there are some morning tasks that would better serve you if done before you head to bed. Curious to discover just what these may be? Well, read on!
1. Eating Cottage Cheese Or Meat
If you don’t eat a couple of hours before you hit the sack, you probably won’t sleep well. And it’s best to eat foods such as cottage cheese or meals with some amount of meat, as they happen to contain “tryptophan” – an amino acid that helps to produce the sleep hormone (1).
2. Walking
Don’t stop yourself from taking a refreshing walk before you go to sleep. This will help your mind get over all the anxiety and stress you’ve built up during the course of the day. Research shows that an evening stroll can improve one’s health and combat insomnia (2). So, take a short walk to enjoy the silence and the peace of the night.
3. Devising (Then Writing) A Plan OF Action For The Next Day
According to The Compound Effect author, Darren Hardy, when we make our plans for the next day the night before, it ensures that our lives are in order and we’re on track . A majority of the working population makes their day plans in the morning when they’re typically in a hurry. Consequently, people forget important tasks or take on more responsibilities than they can manage. Hence, plan your day the night before and watch how the next day runs as smooth as butter!
4. Airing Out One’s Room
Don’t be afraid of leaving a window in your bedroom open at night. And the reason for this will surprise you! Basically, the human body contains “white fat,” which characteristically manifests in areas we absolutely detest (read: thunder thighs). However, there’s also a second kind of fat referred to as “brown fat,” which is involved in thermoregulation. Studies show that when exposed to a colder temperature, our body can turn white fat into brown fat, which helps to improve one’s metabolism (3).
5. Preparing Your Outfit And Lunch In Advance
As we said before, mornings can be a harrowing time. When you’re rushing to brush your teeth, get your makeup on, make coffee, and head out the door, there isn’t enough time for you to whip up (then pack) a healthy and delicious lunch for work as well. And the OOTD? Can a woman really settle on one outfit in less than 10 minutes? We didn’t think so.
Hence, it’s best to prep for meals and plan your outfit the night before. This way, you won’t have to run around like a headless chicken each morning, searching for socks or food!
6. Meditating And Doing Yoga
The number-one excuse for missing a morning session of exercise? Lack of time. Well, in that case, why not prepone the event to the night before. And the best form of exercising would be some good old yoga! Not only will the meditation and tension-relieving exercises give you a good workout, they will also clear your mind, providing you with a good night’s sleep.
7. Taking A Hot Bath Or Shower
To be honest, taking a hot shower first thing in the morning isn’t exactly the best idea as it actually serves as a sleep aid. A hot shower will do you more good instead if taken right before you head to bed. The body temperature changes that occur will allow you to fall asleep more easily, thereby combatting insomnia.
8. Reading Something We Need To Remember
According to a study conducted by the University of Sussex, reading before you fall asleep is the ideal way to relax and clear your mind for bed (4). Basically, by reading, we escape into another world that is far away from our daily problems and stresses. In fact, the study proved that indulging in such behavior was actually more effective at reducing stress than drinking tea or listening to music.
Additionally, the human brain memorizes everything much better at night. This is the reason why students who study at night fare better at exams. Hence, if you want to memorize some text, be sure to take it with you to bed!
