Would you ever allow yourself or your family to brush your teeth with rat poison or an engine degreaser? No, right?

The fact is most dental hygiene products contain toxins that can cause serious illnesses, such as cancer, and may even lead to death.

Now, how do you identify which toothpaste can cause cancer? All you need to do is check the ingredient list and look for an item called triclosan, and if it present in the toothpaste, ditch that paste immediately.

Why Is Triclosan Dangerous For Health?

Triclosan is a chemical that is mostly used in toothpastes, deodorants, and soaps because of its antibacterial properties. It slows down the growth of microbes and prevents the product from getting spoiled.

According to the Tufts University School of Medicine, triclosan has been scrutinized in connection with human safety and health. The United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) considers it a harmful pesticide. However, the companies that manufacture products using triclosan as an ingredient claim it to be safe for use.

The Canadian Medical Association has also banned the usage of such antibacterial products as they affect your natural antibiotic resistance. Though FDA doesn’t classify triclosan as a dangerous chemical, there are many pieces of evidence that show that it may cause a number of health problems if used for a prolonged period.

It usually interferes with the normal functioning of the hormones and is thus considered to be an endocrine disruptor. Triclosan gradually accumulates in the liver cells and the adipose tissues, which means that it can stay in your body for a longer period and accumulate slowly over time. Triclosan has the ability to boost the proliferation of cancerous cells in the breasts, which spreads the disease quickly.

Repeated use of triclosan can cause hormonal disruption and breast cancer, lower the immunity, and damage the liver, lungs, kidneys, and heart.

A few other harmful ingredients present in toothpaste are sodium fluoride, sodium lauryl sulfate (SLS), hydrated silica, and FD & C Blue Dyes 1 & 2.

If you notice the above ingredients in your toothpaste, it’s high time you switch to other brands or opt for safe and natural methods. Exercise caution while buying your personal cosmetics and toothpaste, and stay away from products containing triclosan as much as possible as they might be slowly killing you from within.
