7 Ways To Determine The Baby’s Appearance Before Birth

When a woman realizes she is pregnant, she is extremely curious to know how her child will look like. Over the time, it has become easier for the soon-to-be mother to predict certain aspects about her baby. Even before he/she arrives into the world! In fact, there are several syndromes that can be predicted even while the baby is still in the womb. This can help the soon-to-be parents to prepare well in advance for their times ahead. There are also a few superficial features which can be predicted nowadays. Here, we bring you some of these ways to determine a baby’s appearance even before he/she is born:

1. Left-Handed Or Right-Handed?

While it was believed earlier that handedness doesn’t start developing until the age of around three, it was recently learned that this feature becomes well-defined by the 18th week of pregnancy (1). Quite a fascinating feature to predict, it is said to depend on the hand that a fetus uses more while still in the womb.

2. Little One’s Gender

This is a pretty interesting one. More so because it is a mixed bag of “make-believe” and “science”. Many believe that your newborn’s gender can also depend on the number of times your baby moves in the womb and the way in which he/she does. Despite the fact that most of these methods are unproven, it doesn’t stop the excited parents and grandparents from discussing this topic extensively.

3. The Eyesight

Apparently, you can know a lot about the development of your baby’s eyes even when he/she is still in your belly. In fact, it is said that expecting mothers who don’t receive enough sunlight can give birth to babies with an increased risk of vision disorders (2). Photons from the sunlight can even penetrate the uterus walls after a few weeks into pregnancy. And, the baby begins developing on the basis of this exposure he/she receives from the sun’s rays.

4. Color Of Your Little One’s Hair

Truth be told, you will have an idea of this one yourself. If both you and your partner have brown hair, you will obviously not have a red-haired child. Unless it is some rare mutation. So, if you know the hair colors that are being thrown into the mix, you might well be able to guess your baby’s hair color too!

5. Big Or Small Baby

To make everything clear, you can’t really determine the size of your baby in the long run. But, you can predict what your baby’s weight might be at the time of birth. You might be able to predict the same on how much weight you put on during your pregnancy. Also, on the basis of your baby’s size while he/she is still in your belly.

6. Complexion

Quite similar to predicting your baby’s hair color, even the potential complexion is a no-brainer. If both the parents are Caucasian, then the child will be Caucasian too. If both the parents have a pale complexion, then the child is more likely to be born with a pale complexion too. So, you might have an idea of this more or less at the time of pregnancy itself.

7. Your Baby’s Height

It is believed that you can predict your baby’s possible height more or less by averaging out the height of you and your partner. If one of you is tall and the other one is short, the baby’s height might be either a little above average or a little below average. If both of you have an average height, then your child might either be really small or as tall as a basketball player. Though there is no definite proof for it, this method can more or less give you an idea of your little one’s potential height!

It doesn’t come as a surprise that all soon-to-be parents enjoy discussing how their baby will potentially look like. All you expecting parents out there, next time you know what to talk about while sipping that cup of tea. Happy parenthood!
