And if you are one of those natural-born spenders, the art of saving money is never going to come easily to you. It’s almost as hard as shedding your belly fat. You will find yourself earning enough, but you’ll still be struggling your way to meet ends at the end of the month. You know the saying about being always prepared for the future, right? We might encounter any form of emergency at any given time in life, and in times like these, if we are bankrupt, it will hurt us all the way down to our spine.

So what if we are a spendthrift by nature, we can still work our way to save some money, at least for the basic needs or emergencies. And even before we start to explain the ways through which you could save your money, we’re leaving you with a major money-saving hack — work your finances with your partner (only if you have one). This is because it gets easier to double your savings as a couple. Both of you will make sure that you are spending only on the essential needs and not indulging in luxury spending (1).

So, let’s not delay any longer. Here are a few tips that can help you save a lot of money in spite of you being a born spender!

1. Save Your Money In Stages

This method of saving money requires some patience; nevertheless, the end result is fruitful. Learn to save some amount of money every week. Say, for example, if you have saved up to INR 500 this week, try saving a little more the next week. Play it like a game, this way at the end of every week, you’ll be pumped to know how much you have saved. Additionally, saving money stepwise every week will make sure you aren’t on a spending spree throughout the month.

But, this method will work only if you are prompt and save up every week. If you ask us how on earth will you be able to pull this off, the answer is simple. Build an emotional connect with the money you earn. Develop a healthy level of emotional connection with your money. If you do this, the next time you think of spending money on worthless things, it will pinch you in the head!

And this idea of shopping isn’t just limited to clothing and accessories! Even while you grocery shop, pick those days when the products are at their discounted best. For the minor things in life, it’s okay to draw a line. While investing in properties, etc. plan and save step by step. Only then will you be able to save money and invest it in a wiser way.

Oftentimes, we find ourselves doing ‘microtransactions’ that aren’t necessary. We need to cut down on that. We also need to cut down on the monthly subscriptions (movie, television serials, etc.) that we indulge in every month.

If you are on the extreme end of the spendthrift spectrum, you might have to redo your daily habits and bring a change in your lifestyle. This is because you might have developed certain tastes in life that devour your paycheck. Saving cannot be achieved with that.

Also, remember that saving is one of the first steps towards a making your life financially independent. The above ideas don’t require much effort.
