No one is made perfect, we all know that. Yet, we all run behind perfection when it comes to looks. This is when plastic surgeries come into the picture. At times, they may be completely necessary to avoid potential health issues. However, getting plastic surgeries done for cosmetic enhancements has always been the rage in a certain section of society. While you’d have heard of quite a few of them owing to their popularity, you’ll be surprised to know that there a few weird procedures as well. Here we list some of the weird plastic surgery procedures that you probably didn’t know existed:
1. Eyebrow Transplant
Brow shaping is pretty common among women. However, some of them might go overboard by plucking them out more than they should. Result – the brows become thinner as hair does not grow back faster. At times, the plucked hair might not even grow back. This is when people seek eyebrow transplant. In this procedure, hair is transplanted from the donor site to the eyebrow area (1). Once the right shape is achieved, the hair starts growing normally and needs to be maintained regularly to remain in shape.
2. Dimple Surgery
Who doesn’t love dimples? Of course, they look cute whether they are in the chin or the cheeks. And, not everyone is born with them. But that doesn’t mean you can’t have them. Also known as dimpleplasty, this simple procedure requires a scar or an incision to be made in the underlying muscle of the skin at the desired site (2). It soon takes on a natural form, so much so that it’ll seem as if you always had them.
3. A Vampire Face-Lift
No, you don’t have to turn into a leaving, breathing vampire to get this procedure done. If you wish to ease out your facial wrinkles but botox is not your cup of tea, then you can consider a vampire facelift. In this procedure, your own blood is drawn from your arms, then kept in a machine that separates the platelets. Platelets help repair your skin and stop the bleeding when you get cuts or bruises. These platelets are then injected back into your face where their healing properties help in rejuvenating the skin to repair itself (3).
4. Ear Plastic Surgery
Yes, not many of us notice this often. But some people are born with unusual ears which they would like to correct. This is when they opt for ear surgery. Ear surgery can be done to re-position protruding ears, re-size over-sized ears, or to correct any previous surgical errors. This procedure is also medically known as otoplasty (4).
5. Umbilical Plastic Surgery
We all have heard about tattoos around the belly buttons or even belly button piercings that highlight toned abs. However, have you ever heard of the umbilicoplasty? It is a surgery which is undertaken to correct the shape of your belly button. We all are born with different sizes and shapes of belly buttons. But the most desired shape is a well-rounded innie. Apart from not having it naturally, other instances like a hernia, loose skin, or even post-childbirth outie might make it look even worse. This is when people opt for its surgical correction (5).
6. Cheek Fat Removal
If you were born with high cheekbones, then you are lucky. Well-defined cheekbones look great on a face, which is why cheek-bone contouring is always in trend. While one of the methods to define cheekbones is using dermal fillers, nowadays buccal fat removal is fast catching up as well. Also called cheek reduction, doctors remove the fat deposits in the cheeks to slim them down. Thus, highlighting more defined cheekbones (6).
