What Pregnant Women Really Want During These Strange Times
Pregnancy is a challenging time in every woman’s life. You have to take care of what you eat, what you do, how much rest you get, and manage your stress levels. You are flushed with hormones and emotions in these nine months and probably have the weirdest food cravings. During pregnancy, the support, love, and attention you get from loved ones are great, but things are quite different now. Ever since the pandemic, everyone has had to restrain themselves from going out and meeting people. It’s a strange time and it’s not easy being a pregnant woman during this period. You tend to feel isolated and it can get lonely. So, let’s look at what pregnant women really want during these strange times:
1. Acknowledgment
All you want is for your friends and loved ones to remember you and check up on you to see how’re you’re holding up. You wonder if they have forgotten you and even a simple text or email can turn your day around.
2. To Hear Someone Say “This Sucks”
People only talk about how pregnancy is a wonderful and magical time. But during those nine months, there are several moments of discomfort, pain, and challenges. You wish someone understood that and told you that the situation sucks because no woman enjoys feeling nauseous, having difficulty controlling their bladder, and several other things that come with being pregnant.
3. Thoughtful Gestures And Surprises
It’s safer for pregnant women to be in less contact with friends and relatives, but that does not mean they cannot drop off care packages for you. Imagine you find a parcel of your favorite food or book at the front door in the morning. It’ll make your day, no doubt! Your friends don’t have to meet you in person to send you homemade cookies.
4. Supportive Of Birth Choices
Whether you’re considering going to the hospital for your delivery, having a midwife administer it at home, or going to a birth center, you want people to support you. After all, everyone wants what’s best and safe for the baby.
5. Baby Showers
People might think that baby showers are not that important, but it’s that one event that a pregnant woman looks forward to before her delivery. Granted that a traditional baby shower might not be possible under these circumstances, but nothing is stopping you from having a virtual one. Your loved ones can organize a virtual shower with your friends, parents, and relatives and make it memorable for you.
6. Maternity Photoshoot
Every woman wants to remember her pregnancy, and maternity shoots make that happen. But with the pandemic, it might not be practical to arrange for a professional maternity shoot because of the risk that comes with it. However, that does not stop you from organizing one in the comfort of your home. Use some props lying around the house and create pictures that are worth documenting.
7. Postpartum Support
The support and care you receive during your pregnancy do not end there. After your delivery, you need loved ones to help you out while you handle a newborn and take care of yourself. Your body needs time to recover, and you could use all the help and support you could get. Maybe babysitting once in a while, helping you stock up on baby essentials, running errands for you, and cooking delicious meals are things you will appreciate largely.
Things are very different after what the world went through, and pregnant women might find it hard to adjust to the changes. But these few elements may help them have a happy pregnancy despite being restricted in several ways. Do you agree with this article? Comment below and let us know.
