Co-sleeping is something most parents experience at least once during the initial years of parenthood. And whether you have planned to have your little one sleep with you on the same bed or your toddler sort of fell asleep on your bed, there are some common things most parents experience when they co-sleep with their toddler.

Sure, sleeping with your little one has its ups and downs. For example, you can bid adieu to uninterrupted sleep. You may also be woken up with some tiny kicks and jolts to your face. But you can also snuggle up with your little munchkin with their soft breath on your cheek, taking in the baby smell, and watching them giggle and smile in their sleep.

Continue reading our post as we list down 8 things that happen when parents co-sleep with their toddler.

1. You Will Be Woken Up With A Few Kicks

If you’re co-sleeping with your toddler, you will probably be used to getting kicked in your throat, jaw, and face by now. And for such a tiny human being, you would be surprised at how much it hurts. But all you can do at this point is silent scream and wince yourself back to sleep.

2. Intercourse Will Be A Distant Dream

You know it’s been a while when your nether regions start to slightly resemble the Amazon forest, and you can’t remember the last time you had a bikini wax. Moreover, your husband will also begin to take long, long showers. With a toddler in your bed, it becomes almost impossible to engage in intercourse in your bed. But if you’re lucky, you will be able to find a short window of opportunity during the day when your little one is fast asleep.

3. You Will Wake Up Cranky Some Mornings

On more than one occasion, you wake up exhausted, your neck is sore, and you will say, “Enough of this. I can’t take it anymore.” But as soon as night falls and it’s time for your little munchkin to go to sleep, you can’t bear the thought of your baby sleeping elsewhere, away from you.

4. You Wake Up With Drool On Your Face

And no, it’s not yours. Your little one’s drool would be all over your face. You are now a mom, and this is how life is going to be when you co-sleep with your toddler. But you knew that, didn’t you?

5. You No Longer Tell People That You Co-Sleep With Your Toddler

You’ve made the mistake far too many times of telling people that you sleep with your baby. Not that what they think or say will change your decision, but you simply don’t have the energy to deal with it again and hear people explain what they think is best for your child.

6. You Use Your Toddler As A Source Of Comfort And Warmth

Whether it is those chilly winter months or on days when parenting turns you into a hot mess, sleeping with your baby gives you a sense of comfort and warmth you cannot get enough of. Snuggling with them at night helps you realize that it’s all worth it, and you would do it all over again if you have to.

7. You Wake Up At Least Once In The Middle Of The Night

It could be because your toddler has kicked you on your face, or they have hogged up most of your space, leaving you a breadstick-size portion they are trying to take over, but you can definitely bid adieu to proper sleep. You wonder how such a tiny person can take up so much space on your bed, leaving you with barely any room to sleep on.

8. You Will Wake Up Startled, Frantically Looking For Your Baby When You’re On A Baby-Free Vacation

You will break into sweats in the middle of the night, searching on all fours, on and below the bed before it finally hits you that you are on a baby-free vacation with your husband. Once you realize it, you cannot help but miss your toddler’s chubby little face and squishy feet and decide to cut short your vacation.

Your little one will grow up soon, so try to cherish these sweet snuggles as they are fleeting.
